ZULUM SEEKS RENEWED OIL EXPLORATION IN BORNO
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has called on the Federal Government to resume oil exploration activities in Magumeri and Gubio Local Government Areas of the state.
Zulum made the appeal on Saturday during the 13th regular meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum in Maiduguri, where governors discussed regional development, security and economic cooperation.
The governor said renewed exploration in the North-East, including the Kolmani oil field and the Lake Chad Basin, could support economic development, create jobs and expand the revenue base of states and communities.
He welcomed ongoing efforts to revive exploration at the Kolmani Oil Field in Bauchi State and urged the Federal Government to extend similar attention to Borno.
Zulum said exploration in Magumeri and Gubio had previously commenced but was later stalled. He argued that responsible development of the resources could complement reconstruction efforts, strengthen local economies and create opportunities for residents.
The governor also said renewed oil activities could support the broader development of the North-East.
Other issues discussed at the governors’ meeting included education, healthcare, security and regional cooperation. Governors from Adamawa, Borno and Gombe attended, while Bauchi and Yobe were represented by their deputies.
