The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by suspected terrorists along the Danjibga–Kunchin Kalgo road in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.

The operation was carried out on Thursday by a joint security team comprising operatives of the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the military’s EOD unit, with support from other security personnel.

In a statement issued on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the explosive device was discovered at about 8:00 a.m. and safely rendered harmless after the team applied standard render-safe procedures.

He explained that the pressure-plate IED was professionally neutralised, while its components were recovered and taken away for forensic analysis.

According to the police, a thorough sweep and technical assessment of the area were conducted, confirming that the route is now safe for commuters and residents.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing security operations across the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
