Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has presented staffs of office and official vehicles to 19 newly crowned emirs, urging them to lead with fairness, integrity and compassion.

The ceremony took place at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and the Emir of Gwandu among those in attendance.

After taking their oaths, 11 first-class emirs and eight second-class emirs received their staffs of office.

Each emir also received three vehicles: a GAC Ultra SUV, a Mikano ZNA Hilux and an electric car. The state government said the vehicles would support travel within their domains and closer engagement with residents.

Lawal described traditional rulers as important partners in promoting peace, stability and development.

He said the staff of office represented both authority and a responsibility to serve communities justly.

“The staff of office being presented today signifies the authority entrusted to you by the state,” he said. “It also represents a responsibility to govern your respective domains with fairness, wisdom, integrity and compassion.”

The governor urged the emirs to avoid discrimination, uphold justice and keep their palaces accessible to everyone.

He also pledged to complete ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of royal palaces, describing them as important centres of traditional leadership and community engagement.
