“YOU HAVE A FEW HOURS TO DO THE RIGHT THING” – SOWORE URGES FG TO END NNAMDI KANU’S TRIAL
Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called on the Federal Government to immediately discontinue the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Sowore described Kanu’s ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja, as a “sham built on politics, prejudice, and suppression.”
He said the proceedings, which resumed on Thursday, stemmed from what he termed Kanu’s “illegal and extraordinary rendition” from Kenya, urging the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to correct what he called a long-standing injustice.
“The Attorney-General of the Federation still has a few hours today to do the right thing — to file a nolle prosequi, a formal motion discontinuing this trial, and acknowledge that this case should never have been brought in the first place,” Sowore stated.
Sowore also appealed to Justice James Omotosho to “make history by standing on the side of truth, fairness, and humanity” by dismissing the case outright.
The activist, who plans to lead a nationwide protest on October 20 over Kanu’s continued detention, said ending the trial would restore public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system and save the Tinubu administration from further embarrassment.
