A Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of a businessman, Mamuda Duma, over allegations that he impregnated a married woman and later made her abort a three-month pregnancy.

The case was brought to court after the woman’s husband, Ahmadu Lawal, lodged a formal complaint.

Lawal, who lives in Yola South LGA, told the court that Duma, a resident of Wurojabbe in Yola North, had been having an affair with his wife despite repeated warnings.

According to him, he first discovered the affair last year and personally called Duma three times to warn him, but the relationship continued. Matters escalated when his wife allegedly became pregnant, and Duma reportedly arranged for her to terminate the pregnancy.

Lawal explained that he initially reported the matter to the police, but later withdrew the case after Duma and some of his friends pleaded with him and promised to end the affair. However, Duma allegedly went back on his word and continued seeing the woman, leading Lawal to pursue the case again.

When the charges were read in court, the defendant, Duma, denied all allegations.

The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda, ordered that he be remanded in prison custody while the case proceeds. The trial has been adjourned to September 1, 2025.
