YOBE PDP WELCOMES 2,025 NEW MEMBERS AS 2027 POLITICAL RACE GATHERS PACE

The Peoples Democratic Party in Yobe State has received 2,025 new members who defected from the All Progressives Congress, African Democratic Congress and Nigeria Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The new members were formally received during a political gathering at Sabon Garin Nangere in Nangere Local Government Area of the state. The event was led by Halilu Mazagane, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former senatorial candidate for Yobe South.

According to Mazagane, the new entrants comprised 500 former APC members, 1,300 former ADC members and 225 members from the NDP, representing a sizeable addition to the PDP's membership base in the area.

Addressing the gathering, Mazagane urged both the defectors and existing PDP members to remain committed to the party and resist any form of intimidation as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.

He appealed to the new members to work together with the existing party structure and support PDP candidates across different levels of government during the forthcoming elections.

Mazagane said the party's objective was to provide effective representation and improve the living conditions of residents, particularly through employment opportunities for young people and empowerment programmes for women.

He also encouraged members to remain peaceful throughout the electioneering period and to exercise their voting rights responsibly when the elections eventually take place.

The PDP chieftain further urged residents to support candidates they believe would bring meaningful development to their communities rather than allowing political differences to create tension.

Mazagane, who is also seeking election to represent the Potiskum/Nangere Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, pledged to prioritise youth employment and women's empowerment if elected.

The mass movement into the PDP comes as political parties across Nigeria intensify efforts to expand their membership and strengthen grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For the Yobe PDP, the arrival of more than 2,000 members from rival political platforms represents an opportunity to reinforce its presence in Nangere and surrounding communities.

The development also reflects the continuing political realignments taking place across the country as politicians and supporters reassess their affiliations ahead of the next general elections.

The newly admitted members were urged to work alongside the party's existing supporters and remain focused on building a stronger political structure in the state.

With the 2027 elections approaching, further defections and political movements are expected as parties seek to consolidate their support bases and improve their chances at the polls.
