The Yobe State Government has reopened two key markets—Kukareta and Buniyadi—that were previously shut down due to insecurity.

This announcement was made by the Security Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Dahiru Abdulsalam, after a security meeting held at the Government House in Damaturu and chaired by Deputy Governor Idi Barde-Gubana.

Abdulsalam explained that after a thorough review of the security situation across the state, it was deemed safe to reopen the Kukareta and Buniyadi markets, which are located in Damaturu and Gujba Local Government Areas respectively.

“These markets were closed to cut off suspected food supply to insurgents causing unrest in the region. Now that the situation has improved, we are reopening them for the benefit of the local communities,” he said.

However, he emphasized that the ban on the sale of petrol between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. still remains in place. Security operatives have been directed to arrest anyone found violating this rule.

In another development, Abdulsalam revealed that the government plans to set up a task force to monitor and prevent the encroachment of farmlands and cattle routes. This move is aimed at reducing clashes between farmers and herders, which have already seen a significant drop in recent months.

The reopening of the markets is seen as a positive step towards normalcy in the affected areas, bringing relief to traders and residents who depend on them for their livelihood.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
