YOBE ELECTORAL COMMISSION PRESENTS CERTIFICATES TO 17 LG CHAIRMEN
The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission has presented certificates of return to the 17 newly elected local government chairmen and their deputies.
The presentation took place on Tuesday in Damaturu, following the peaceful conduct of the September 26 local government elections across the state.
Speaking at the event, YOSIEC Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Yabani, urged the newly elected council leaders to move beyond politics and focus on governance, service delivery and grassroots development.
Yabani called on the chairmen to build on existing achievements, pursue better results and introduce development projects that would have a direct impact on residents.
He also urged the council leaders to justify the confidence placed in them by their constituents by promoting inclusive governance and improving the welfare of their communities.
The YOSIEC chairman attributed the successful conduct of the election to support from the state government and what he described as Governor Mai Mala Buni’s policy of non-interference in the electoral process.
He said the commission had also received two awards from the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations and the Visiting Journalists Association in recognition of its work in election administration.
Yabani dedicated the awards to members of the YOSIEC team, describing them as recognition of their collective efforts.
