A Yobe State High Court sitting in Damaturu has sentenced a 45-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, to death by hanging for killing his wife, Ammi Mamman.

Musa, popularly known as Daddy, was convicted following a trial over the fatal assault in 2024.

According to reports citing the Nigerian Television Authority, police arrested him on January 4, 2024, at New Bra-Bra Housing Estate in Damaturu. He was subsequently charged with culpable homicide.

Musa pleaded not guilty, but the court found that the prosecution’s evidence established his responsibility for his wife’s death.

The judgment marks a major development in a case that began with his arrest more than two years ago.

Details of the evidence presented during the trial and the full reasoning behind the judgment were not available in the reports reviewed.

There was also no independently confirmed information about whether Musa’s legal representatives had filed an appeal against the conviction or sentence.
