YAYI UNVEILS NINE-POINT AGENDA FOR OGUN AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTION
The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has unveiled a nine-pillar development agenda ahead of the 2027 governorship election, promising to maintain what he described as viable policies and projects of the current administration. Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate and chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriation, presented the agenda, tagged “ITESIWAJU for Ogun State,” during a meeting with members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council in Abeokuta on Monday.
Adeola said continuity in governance could help Ogun achieve stronger economic and infrastructural development, using Lagos State as an example of how successive administrations have built on projects and policies initiated by previous governments. He argued that viable projects should not be abandoned simply because they were started by a previous administration, saying their value should instead be assessed based on their potential benefits to residents. He also called on other governorship candidates to make their campaigns issue-based and explain their plans for youth development, women’s empowerment, industrialisation, agriculture, infrastructure, security, employment and economic growth.
The proposed ITESIWAJU agenda covers nine areas, with the acronym representing Infrastructure; Tourism and Culture; Economic Empowerment; Security and Welfare; Inclusive Growth and Well-being; Women, Youth and Poverty Eradication; Agriculture and Food Security; Job Creation and Industrialisation; and Urbanisation and Transparency. Adeola said the framework was developed following consultations with thousands of people across Ogun State and was intended to address the needs of different sectors and communities. He described the agenda as a development framework rather than simply a document prepared for the purpose of seeking political office.
The senator also said Ogun had the human and economic resources required to achieve significant development and stated that his interest in the governorship was driven by a desire to contribute to the progress of the state. He maintained that he would continue to focus on his proposed agenda despite controversy surrounding questions about his ancestral roots, which he described as political manoeuvring by opponents. Adeola further said that appointments under his proposed administration would be based on qualification, while urging voters to examine the programmes and plans presented by candidates before making their choice.
Speaking during the meeting, Ogun State IPAC Chairman, Abayomi Sanyaolu, commended Adeola for what he described as his contributions across the state’s three senatorial districts. Sanyaolu also appealed to all governorship candidates to avoid personal attacks and inflammatory language during the 2027 campaign, urging them instead to present their manifestos and engage the electorate on issues affecting the state. The meeting comes as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the Ogun governorship election and begin presenting their policy proposals to voters.
