YARI CALLS FOR NORTHERN BACKING AS TINUBU’S 2027 CAMPAIGN GATHERS MOMENTUM

Former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has urged Northerners to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election. Yari said the North should honour the political understanding that helped former President Muhammadu Buhari secure two terms in office between 2015 and 2023.

Speaking during an engagement with Islamic clerics in Talata-Mafara, Zamfara State, Yari argued that the South should be allowed to complete its own eight-year tenure in the presidency. He said the North and South had maintained an important political relationship over the years and that preserving the arrangement would contribute to political stability and national unity.

Yari also called on the religious leaders to intensify prayers for peace and security across the country, particularly in the Northwest, where communities continue to face security challenges. He said the Federal Government under Tinubu remained committed to tackling insecurity and addressing other challenges confronting Nigerians.

The former governor has become a key figure in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 election following his appointment as Director-General of the President’s campaign council. He has maintained that the campaign will focus on the achievements of the Tinubu administration rather than personal attacks or empty promises, while urging Nigerians to consider the government’s record when deciding whether to support its second-term bid.

Yari’s appeal comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and political groups already mobilising supporters across the country. He has repeatedly argued that the North should reciprocate the support Tinubu gave to the region during Buhari’s presidency, making regional political balance and continuity central themes of his campaign for the President’s re-election.
