WOMAN APOLOGISES AFTER FAKE AI IMAGE SPARKS ITEL CONTROVERSY
A Nigerian social media user, identified as Enori, has apologised after admitting that she used artificial intelligence to create and circulate a fake image claiming that an itel Power Tank had exploded.
Enori shared the image on X earlier in the week, alongside a claim that the product had exploded due to overcharging. The post gained attention before she deleted it and later admitted that the incident had not occurred.
In her apology, Enori said the image and the story surrounding it were generated using AI. She apologised to itel, its customers and people who may have believed the image was genuine.
She also said she understood the potential impact of spreading false information about a company and promised not to repeat the act.
The incident came after itel warned against the circulation of the fabricated image. The company said the image did not depict a real incident involving its Power Tank and warned that deliberate attempts to spread false claims about its products could attract legal action.
itel said it was committed to addressing genuine customer concerns but would take steps to protect its brand and customers from fabricated content.
There has been no verified report linking an itel Power Tank to the explosion shown in the AI-generated image.
