“WITHOUT YOU, MY STORY’S INCOMPLETE” — 2BABA MARKS 25 YEARS IN MUSIC WITH EMOTIONAL LETTER OF GRATITUDE
Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has penned a heartfelt open letter to commemorate his 25th anniversary in the music industry, expressing deep gratitude to those who have played a role in his iconic career.
In the emotional note titled “Open Letter of Gratitude: 2Baba @ 25 Years in the Industry,” the multi-award-winning artist reflected on his remarkable journey, filled with “gratitude, memories, lessons, and love.”
“As I stand on the threshold of 25 years in this incredible journey called music, my heart is full of gratitude, memories, lessons, and love.
This celebration is not mine alone. It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia, 2Baba,” he wrote.
2Baba, who rose to fame as a member of the legendary Plantashun Boiz alongside Faze and Blackface, paid tribute to those who helped shape his path to stardom.
He thanked Nelson Brown, the producer who discovered Plantashun Boiz, saying,
“You were the first to see light in the dream of three young men when no one else believed.
You gave us a voice when we barely had a microphone, a space when all we had was a dream.”
He also lauded Baba Keke (Kenny Ogungbe) and D1 (Dayo Adeneye) as mentors who opened doors that defined his career and revolutionized the Nigerian music scene.
“You opened doors that led us from dreams to destiny. We made history together; we won together. You stood as mentors and big brothers, and your names will forever be etched in my story,” he said.
2Baba further appreciated Eddie Lawani for giving Plantashun Boiz early performance opportunities and DJ Jimmy Jatt for his unwavering support since the beginning of his career, describing him as “a brother and constant source of encouragement.”
Reflecting on his journey from the late 1990s to global fame, 2Baba stated that this milestone is not just about personal success but also a celebration of everyone who contributed to the growth of Nigerian music.
“Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete,” he concluded.
With timeless hits such as “African Queen,” “If Love Is a Crime,” and “For Instance,” 2Baba remains one of Africa’s most influential artists—his legacy a symbol of resilience, authenticity, and gratitude.
