WIKE SAYS ATIKU, OBI WILL TARGET HIM IF TINUBU LOSES
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he expects to become a major target of opposition politicians if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.
Wike specifically mentioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, saying his decision to support Tinubu’s re-election could make him vulnerable if the opposition takes power.
The minister made the comments during a media interaction in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while explaining his continued support for Tinubu despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Wike said he was not prepared to remain passive and allow Atiku or Obi to defeat Tinubu, stressing that he would continue to work for the President’s re-election.
He also defended his political position despite criticism from members of his party, maintaining that his support for Tinubu was based on his political judgment.
The former Rivers State governor has remained one of Tinubu’s prominent political supporters since the 2023 election, despite his continued membership of the PDP.
His comments come as political realignments and preparations for the 2027 presidential election intensify, with opposition figures and the ruling All Progressives Congress working to consolidate their support ahead of the poll.
Wike said his focus remained on ensuring Tinubu secures another term in office.
