WIKE, OKPEBHOLO MOURN DEATH OF EDO PDP CHIEFTAIN ORBIH

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and other political leaders have mourned the death of the Peoples Democratic Party National Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih.

Orbih, a prominent Edo politician and Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, died on Monday, August 31, 2026. His family announced his death on Tuesday.

Wike described Orbih as a close friend and committed political ally, saying his death was a major loss to Edo State’s political community. He also commiserated with the deceased’s wife, children and other family members.

Okpebholo described Orbih as a bridge-builder, voice of reason and astute political leader, noting his contributions to the development of Ambrose Alli University and stronger ties between the institution and the state government.

The management of Ambrose Alli University also expressed shock over his death, praising Orbih for his commitment to academic excellence, good governance, institutional stability and the restoration of the university’s reputation.

The Edo State chapter of the PDP described Orbih as a respected statesman whose decades of service contributed significantly to democratic governance and the development of the party in the state and the South-South region.

Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, also mourned Orbih, describing him as an influential political figure who played a significant role in the growth of the PDP in Edo State and Nigeria
