WIKE CREDITS LATE DAN ORBIH FOR RIVERS GOVERNORSHIP SUCCESS
Federal Capital Territory Minister recounts the unwavering loyalty and resistance to political pressure demonstrated by the late Peoples Democratic Party chieftain during critical electoral battles
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that divine providence utilized the late Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Dan Orbih, to facilitate his emergence as governor of Rivers State.
Wike made the disclosure during a solemn night of tributes held in Abuja in honor of the late politician, who served as the party's National Vice-Chairman for the South-South.
Reflecting on the turbulent political maneuvering that preceded the 2015 elections, Wike noted that Orbih faced intense pressure and lucrative material inducements from political adversaries aiming to truncate his gubernatorial ambition.
According to the FCT minister, opposition figures deployed extensive resources to sway Orbih, but the late party stalwart stood his ground and rebuffed all attempts to compromise his stance.
Wike highlighted that beyond moral backing, Orbih provided material security assistance during the heated campaign cycle, including the donation of specialized vehicles to safeguard campaign operations across the region.
The minister further praised Orbih's uncommon integrity, emphasizing that throughout his eight-year tenure as governor, the late chieftain never approached him for personal contracts, financial favors, or political patronage.
Political associates, regional leaders, and family members gathered at the memorial event to celebrate Orbih's legacy as a steadfast bridge-builder and a principled defender of democratic values within the nation's political landscape.
