WIKE CHALLENGES AMAECHI’S CLAIM OVER MOTHER’S DEATH
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has criticised former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi over his claim that President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies contributed to his mother’s death.
Amaechi made the claim during a Channels Television interview on Friday, saying rising medicine costs under the Tinubu administration had made it difficult for him to afford his mother’s medication.
Responding on Saturday, Wike questioned the claim and said Amaechi should not have brought his late mother into political arguments.
Wike referred to Amaechi’s previous positions as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, governor and Minister of Transportation, questioning his explanation that he could not afford his mother’s medication.
He also criticised Amaechi for linking his mother’s happiness to the outcome of the 2027 election, saying political matters should not be associated with the deceased.
Amaechi’s mother, Mary Amaechi, died in July 2026 and was buried in September in Ubima, Rivers State.
The latest exchange is part of the continuing political disagreement between Wike and Amaechi, who previously worked together in Rivers State before becoming political opponents.
