WHY I TURNED DOWN INEC AMBASSADOR APPOINTMENT – GOVERNOR AMUNEKE

Nigerian skitmaker and satirical content creator Kevin Chinedu has explained why he rejected an appointment to serve as a youth ambassador for the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Speaking in a video shared on his X handle, Amuneke said he was initially excited about the offer, describing it as a major recognition of his journey as a content creator.

However, he said his excitement changed after he was informed that the role would come with restrictions on his content, particularly on criticism of INEC.

According to him, while he would be allowed to promote civic awareness, such as voter registration, he would not be permitted to directly criticise the electoral body.

He said the condition raised concerns because his content is largely based on political satire and holding public institutions accountable.

Amuneke added that accepting such terms would conflict with the purpose of his platform, which he described as rooted in public feedback, governance issues, and the experiences of ordinary citizens.

He stated that he could not operate under conditions that limit his freedom of expression, stressing that his voice represents many people who rely on his platform to express concerns.

The comedian appreciated the offer, but said he prefers to maintain independence in his work, even if it means turning down official recognition or partnerships.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
