WHY I REJECTED DAVIDO’S RECORD DEAL – RAPPER CDQ OPENS UP
Nigerian rapper CDQ has opened up about a time when Afrobeats superstar Davido offered him a recording deal—which he eventually turned down.
Speaking in a recent interview with Echo Room, CDQ revealed that after the success of his hit track "Indomie", Davido reached out to him via Twitter, expressing interest in signing him.
“Davido told me he had just made a lot of money from his African tour and wanted to invest in me,” CDQ said. “He said he believed I could become the biggest rapper in Africa.”
However, CDQ insisted that his longtime producer, Masterkraft, had to be part of any deal moving forward. The two then met with Davido for talks.
During the meeting, Masterkraft suggested a partnership deal instead of a traditional recording contract, pointing out that CDQ had already built a strong street fanbase and brand.
Unfortunately, Davido declined the partnership offer, and the deal didn’t happen.
Despite turning down the opportunity, CDQ emphasized that there was no bad blood between him and Davido. He described the DMW boss as someone with a good heart who genuinely wanted to help.
The story highlights how CDQ stayed loyal to his roots and team—even in the face of a major industry opportunity.
