‘WE’RE READY TO SUPPORT YOU,’ AMAECHI TELLS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has criticized the Federal Government for failing to address the rising wave of killings and terrorist attacks across Nigeria.
In a post on X, Amaechi accused the government of lacking the political will to halt the continuous violence and protect citizens. He highlighted that the recent surge in attacks and mass kidnappings poses a serious challenge to national security.
Citing recent incidents as “unacceptable,” Amaechi listed attacks on civilians in Plateau, the kidnapping of secondary schoolgirls in Kebbi, an ambush on soldiers in Borno that led to the death and abduction of Brigadier General M. Uba, an attack on a church in Kwara, and the kidnapping of Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal in Kaduna—all occurring within a week.
He urged the Federal Government to strengthen military intelligence, improve its response to terrorism, and demonstrate leadership that Nigerians can trust. “Your primary assignment is the security of lives and property. Enough of looking the other way or issuing watered-down statements of condemnation,” he stated.
Amaechi also criticized the President’s priorities, saying that focusing on summits or trips while Nigerians are dying “cannot be the trait of a good leader.”
He called for thorough investigations into poor decisions, better coordination among security agencies, and firmer action against terrorists.
“Nigeria can overcome this crisis with the right strategy,” Amaechi emphasized. “We did it in Rivers State; it can be done nationwide. We are prepared to help if asked.”
