Televangelist and founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, Dr. Chris Okafor, has voiced concerns over what he described as rampant cyberbullying and urged stronger oversight of Nigeria’s online platforms.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday, Okafor criticized the actions of bloggers and social media influencers, accusing many of spreading unverified claims that damage reputations.

The controversy stems from allegations made in November 2025 by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who claimed that Okafor had engaged in a long-term relationship with her and failed to fulfill a promise of marriage. Ogala also accused the cleric of involvement in the death of her brother and claimed that the head of an unidentified murdered person was buried at the altar of his church in Ojodu, Lagos State.

Reacting to the claims, Okafor expressed distress over the way bloggers and influencers reportedly targeted him without evidence or giving him the opportunity to respond.

“It is deeply troubling that many so-called influencers collaborate with people to fabricate sensational stories simply to attract traffic to their platforms. Countless Nigerians have had their lives and reputations ruined by these falsehoods, yet most offenders escape accountability,” he said.

Okafor called for urgent intervention to safeguard Nigeria’s digital space, emphasizing the need for laws that would protect innocent citizens from false allegations. He urged the National Assembly to enact regulations to govern online activity and ensure that offenders face meaningful consequences.

He also appealed to cybercrime authorities to intensify efforts to track and prosecute digital offenses. Reflecting on his personal experience, Okafor lamented that many individuals accepted unverified claims without seeking facts or asking critical questions.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
