WEDDING CELEBRATION TURNS TRAGIC AS GUNMAN KILLS GUEST, INJURES THREE IN KANO

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects following a shooting at a wedding ceremony in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano metropolis, which left one person dead and three others injured. The incident occurred on August 16, 2026, during a wedding celebration that reportedly featured loud music.

The police said the main suspect, identified as 34-year-old Rabi’u Mukthar, allegedly came out of his residence while the wedding activities were ongoing and opened fire on people gathered at the ceremony. The attack reportedly caused panic among guests and residents in the area.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, officers responded after receiving information about the incident and arrested Mukthar alongside another suspect. A pump-action rifle allegedly used during the shooting was also recovered by the police.

Preliminary information from the police indicated that the suspect was disturbed by the loud music from the wedding ceremony. During questioning, he reportedly told investigators that those organising the musical activities had not consulted residents before the event, adding that the noise prevented him from sleeping.

The shooting resulted in the death of one person, while three others sustained injuries and were taken for medical attention. The incident has raised concerns over the dangers of disputes over noise and public celebrations escalating into violence, particularly where firearms are involved.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. The Kano State Police Command said the investigation is aimed at establishing the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and determining the appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
