“WE WON’T BE USED” — WIKE DECLARES AMID PDP LEADERSHIP FIGHT
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has cautioned against being used as a bargaining tool in resolving the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike voiced his concerns over what he described as internal sabotage within the party and called for a restoration of due process and adherence to established rules.
He made the remarks in Abuja on Friday during a meeting with the Concerned PDP Stakeholders, following a Federal High Court ruling that halted the party’s national convention earlier slated for November in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Wike firmly warned against any attempt to hijack the leadership of the PDP, insisting that he and his supporters would not allow themselves to be used for anyone’s personal agenda.
“Let me be clear — nobody, and I mean nobody, will use us to negotiate for anything. We are members of this party; we have made sacrifices for it. But we will not allow anyone to trade us off for personal benefit.
“Those of us who are standing firm today are doing so not for ourselves but for the integrity of the PDP — for due process, fairness, and respect for the rule of law,” he stated.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court had earlier restrained the PDP from holding its national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.
The ruling came after three aggrieved party members filed a suit challenging the process leading up to the event.
In his judgment, Justice Omotosho directed the PDP to address its internal issues and comply with the mandatory 21-day notice requirement before proceeding with the convention.
