‘WE LIVE IN FEAR’: PLATEAU WOMEN SPEAK OUT ON RAPE AND KILLINGS BY ARMED MILITANTS
A women leader from a community repeatedly attacked in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State has recounted the horrifying experiences of women and young girls allegedly assaulted by armed Fulani militants.
Speaking to a fact-finding team from Equipping The Persecuted Organization—a group that provides support and raises awareness about the persecution of Christians globally—the women leader described how the attackers have continued to terrorize residents, particularly targeting women working on their farms.
According to her, the armed herdsmen ambush women in their farmlands, subject them to gang rape, and kill anyone who dares to resist.
“Our women have suffered severe humiliation at the hands of Fulani herdsmen. They ambush them on their farms, gang-rape them, and slaughter anyone who resists like an animal,” she said.
“We can’t sleep in our homes, we can’t go to our farms, we can’t even work to earn a living. They hunt us like animals. Even when women are on their farms, they come and rape them — including young girls.”
She further revealed that the community has documented numerous cases of rape and murder, lamenting that there has been no protection or intervention from authorities.
“We have detailed records of women and girls who have been raped and killed, yet no one stands up for us. There’s a government in this state, but we have been abandoned and left vulnerable,” she cried.
