Veteran Nigerian singer and rapper Seyi Sodimu has hailed Wande Coal as the most talented Afrobeats artist of his generation, acknowledging his role in shaping the genre’s modern sound. In a recent interview with comedian Teju Babyface, Sodimu described Wande Coal as a pivotal figure whose style has influenced some of today’s biggest names, including Wizkid and Davido. “Wande Coal was one of the key figures who transitioned Afrobeats to a new generation, influencing artists like Wizkid, Davido, and Sean Tizzle. It was his style that modernized the sound of Afrobeats. I think he is the most talented Nigerian Afrobeats artist,” Sodimu stated. The “Love Me Jeje” crooner referred to Wande Coal as a “genius,” praising his exceptional abilities as both a singer and songwriter. He acknowledged that while Wande may not always receive the recognition he deserves in terms of awards or mainstream accolades, his music remains deeply loved and respected throughout the industry. When asked if Wande Coal is “getting the flowers” he deserves, Sodimu pointed out that an artist's impact cannot always be measured solely by streaming numbers. “Any artist you ask, even Burna Boy, can attest to Wande Coal’s artistry. I’m older than Wande Coal, and I know he is currently operating at 30% of his potential, and he is still incredibly successful. Just imagine if he were operating at 78%. Wande is a genius. He can sing and he also writes. He is amazing.” Sodimu believes that if Wande Coal were functioning at his full creative capacity, his influence on Afrobeats would be even greater than it already is.
