Nigerian powerhouse vocalist Waje has revealed that she did not receive any payment for her contribution to P-Square’s 2007 hit song, “Do Me.”

Speaking on the HonestBunch Podcast, the singer—whose full name is Aituaje Iruobe—disclosed that despite being the female voice behind the iconic chorus, she was never paid or officially credited for her role in the track.

“I didn’t earn a dime from P-Square’s ‘Do Me,’” Waje stated during the interview.

The singer recalled how difficult it was to convince people that she was the voice behind the chart-topping hit.

“Imagine being in Onitsha market and telling people that’s my voice every time ‘Do Me’ is played, and they look at you like, who are you? They didn’t believe me,” she said.

Waje explained that although the song played a major role in launching her career, she was not included in the music video because she didn’t have a passport at the time of the shoot.

“Do Me” was one of the standout singles from P-Square’s third studio album, Game Over, which dominated airwaves across Africa and helped define the duo’s early success.

While Waje’s revelation has reignited conversations about artist compensation and credit in Nigeria’s music industry, many fans have praised her humility and talent, noting that her voice remains one of the most recognizable in Afrobeats history.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
