WAEC Fixes Result Errors, Asks 2025 Candidates to Recheck Scores After 24 Hours

If you recently checked your 2025 WAEC results and were left confused or disappointed, you're not alone — and there’s good news.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has just confirmed that there were technical glitches in the initial release of this year’s WASSCE results, particularly in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

In a public statement released on Thursday, WAEC’s Public Affairs Department explained that the issue was discovered during a routine internal review after students began raising concerns online.

According to WAEC, the errors were linked to a new innovation called “paper serialization” — a security feature aimed at reducing exam malpractice by uniquely tagging exam papers. While it was meant to improve fairness and integrity, it unexpectedly caused bugs in the grading system for key subjects.

“An internal post-result release procedure revealed some technical bugs,” the statement said.

WAEC has temporarily disabled the result-checking portal and is currently fixing the issue. Candidates are now advised to wait 24 hours and then recheck their results, as the corrected versions will be uploaded.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding,” WAEC said.

WAEC Apologises and Reassures Students

The examination body issued a formal apology to all affected students and the general public, assuring that it remains committed to fairness, accuracy, and transparency in all its assessments.

“WAEC remains committed to upholding excellence... Thank you for always counting on our integrity and reposing confidence in us to render quality service to the Nigerian child.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
