WABARA BOT SEEKS INEC RECOGNITION FOR TURAKI PDP
The Board of Trustees (BoT) faction led by Senator Wabara has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the leadership aligned with Kabiru Tanimu Turaki within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The request comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the party, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s structure and seeking legitimacy ahead of future political activities.
According to members of the Wabara-led BoT, recognizing the Turaki-backed leadership would help restore stability and strengthen the party’s internal democratic processes.
The faction argued that its position is consistent with the party’s constitution and urged INEC to act in accordance with relevant legal and constitutional provisions.
Political observers say the dispute reflects the broader power struggle within the PDP as stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Analysts warn that prolonged internal divisions could weaken the party’s ability to present a united front and effectively compete in future elections.
Party members have continued to call for reconciliation, dialogue, and adherence to due process to resolve the leadership crisis.
INEC has yet to make a formal decision on the request, maintaining that its actions will be guided by the law and established electoral procedures.
Stakeholders believe the commission’s eventual decision could have significant implications for the PDP’s leadership structure and political strategy.
The development highlights the continuing contest for influence within one of Nigeria’s major opposition parties as preparations for the next election cycle intensify.
