VOTING KICKS OFF AT GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU’S POLLING UNIT IN LAGOS
Local Government Elections Begin Smoothly at Sanwo-Olu’s Polling Unit
Voting has officially begun at Polling Unit 007 located inside St. Stephen’s Nursery and Primary School, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island — the same polling unit where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to cast his vote in the ongoing Lagos local government elections.
The exercise kicked off right on schedule at 8:00 a.m., with officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arriving early and setting up without delay. The mood at the polling unit was calm, and everything appeared to be running smoothly.
Among the early voters was Jubril Gawat, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, who turned up to vote shortly after the process began.
A visible presence of security personnel, including police officers, helped maintain a peaceful and orderly environment as residents began to cast their votes for chairmen and councillors across the state.
Today’s election covers all 20 constitutionally recognized Local Government Areas (LGAs) and the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State. The stakes are high, as these grassroots elections will determine local leaders responsible for governance and development at the community level.
LASIEC has emphasized the importance of voter turnout and encouraged Lagosians to participate actively in shaping their local government.
So far, the process at Sanwo-Olu’s polling unit sets a hopeful tone for what could be a peaceful and credible local government election across the state.
