“VOTE BUYING IS AN INVESTMENT IN CORRUPTION” – PETER OBI WARNS NIGERIANS

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to reject vote buying, describing it as a dangerous practice that only fuels corruption.

In a post shared on his official X handle on Monday, the former Anambra State Governor reminded citizens that their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain the strongest tool to build a new Nigeria.

According to Obi, politicians who buy votes are not doing voters any favors but rather investing in corruption.

“Those who buy votes are not offering you charity; they only invest in their own corruption. They buy votes so that they can buy their way into our treasury to steal public money. Such people are not leaders, they are criminals in disguise,” Obi wrote.

He warned that selling votes amounts to mortgaging the future — denying citizens access to quality education, healthcare, jobs, and development opportunities.

Obi stressed that Nigeria’s democracy can only survive if voters elect leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion.

He concluded with a call to action:

“Our democracy is at stake. That is why I urge every eligible Nigerian to register, collect, and safeguard your PVC, and when the time comes, use it wisely.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
