VIDEO: ALAAFIN RECEIVES COLOURFUL WELCOME FROM NIGERIANS IN AUSTRALIA
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, received a warm reception from Nigerians as he arrived at Melbourne Airport in Australia.
A video circulating on Thursday showed members of the Yoruba community dressed in colourful traditional outfits, including aso-oke, gathering to welcome the monarch.
Oba Owoade wore a purple embroidered agbada and coral beads and carried a traditional staff as he walked through the arrivals hall.
Some well-wishers knelt in greeting, while others presented flowers and recorded the occasion on their phones.
The welcome continued outside the terminal, where a vehicle was waiting to take the monarch to his destination.
The gathering offered members of the Yoruba diaspora an opportunity to celebrate their heritage and honour the traditional ruler.
Oba Owoade is the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.
The report did not provide details of his itinerary or the purpose of his visit to Australia.
