VICTOR OSIMHEN NAMES HIS TWO CHILDHOOD HEROES
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed the two people who inspired him most during his childhood — his elder brother and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
Speaking after scoring a stunning hat-trick in Galatasaray’s 3–0 UEFA Champions League win over Ajax at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, the 26-year-old said his brother’s hard work and Drogba’s footballing excellence shaped his career and mindset.
“For me, it’s my brother in life, and then, in football, it’s Didier Drogba,” Osimhen told UEFA’s official website.
Osimhen recalled how his brother’s relentless hustle selling sports newspapers on the streets of Lagos inspired him to work hard and dream big.
“I saw the way my brother used to work because he sells sports newspapers. And if you sell sports newspapers in Nigeria, you can stay on the roadside, or you have your newspaper in your hand and walk through cars and hold up. He was the person who actually inspired me to hustle so hard,” he said.
The Galatasaray forward also described Didier Drogba as his football idol, saying he admired the Ivorian’s style of play and character both on and off the pitch.
“In the footballing aspect, it was Drogba because I saw him and I tried to model my game to his, and I tried to see how he plays, and how he’s living life outside of football,” Osimhen added.
Osimhen’s story continues to resonate with millions of fans, serving as a reminder that humility, hard work, and inspiration from those closest to us can drive success on the biggest stages.
