Nigerian music star Anthony Ebuka Victor, widely known as Victony, has revealed that he has never taken the stage without first consuming alcohol.

Speaking on the Behind The Prestige podcast—now trending online—the Soweto crooner opened up about his past reliance on alcohol before performances. He admitted it had become a routine but said he’s now committed to embracing a healthier lifestyle.

Victony disclosed that he has already quit smoking and is now working towards eliminating alcohol from his system entirely.

“I’m trying to do this tour sober, and it’s a big challenge,” he said. “For the longest time, I’ve never performed without drinking. But now, I want to see my fans with my own eyes and connect with them genuinely.”

He noted that he began a new fitness journey two months ago and is gradually adjusting to the changes. “Staying fit is a new habit. I haven’t smoked in a while. I’m trying to stay off alcohol too.”

Victony first captured national attention through his hit collaboration Holy Father with Mayorkun. In 2021, he survived a fatal car crash that claimed one life and left others injured—a life-altering event he later described as a “blessing in disguise” during a 2023 interview.
