VENUS WILLIAMS, 45, GETS WILD CARD FOR US OPEN COMEBACK
Tennis legend Venus Williams is set to make a remarkable return to Grand Slam action at this year’s US Open, after receiving a wild-card invitation to compete in singles at the age of 45.
This will be her first singles appearance at the US Open since 2023, marking a comeback to the prestigious tournament after a two-year break. According to the International Tennis Federation, Williams will be the oldest singles competitor at the US Open since Renee Richards, who played at age 47 in 1981.
The U.S. Tennis Association had already granted Williams a wild card for next week’s mixed doubles event, but her singles matches will begin on August 24 in New York.
A true icon of the sport, Venus has an impressive seven major singles titles, including US Open victories in 2000 and 2001, as well as 14 women’s doubles titles — all won alongside her younger sister, Serena Williams — and two mixed doubles titles.
