Nigerian activist and outspoken social media critic, Martin Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced the launch of a nationwide community service initiative under the banner of the Ratel Movement.

In a viral video shared on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, VDM revealed that the initiative will kick off on Saturday, November 29, 2025, with monthly community clean-ups and civic projects across the country.

According to him, the campaign is designed to combat environmental decay and foster a spirit of patriotism and responsibility among Nigerian youths.

“Starting from the 29th of November, 2025, which will be on a Saturday, we the Ratel Movement are taking over Nigeria, we are shutting down this country.
That being said, we are not shutting down in terms of violence, we are shutting it down in terms of impact,” VDM declared.

The activities will include:

Cleaning public spaces and marketplaces

Clearing clogged drainages

Rehabilitating school facilities

Supporting grassroots community development

VDM said the initiative marks a shift from online activism to real-life impact, noting that the Ratel Movement is ready to prove its commitment to Nigeria’s progress beyond social media debates.

“We are going to start what has never been seen before in Nigeria. We are moving from just being on social media claiming to be Ratels to presenting ourselves in real life and impacting our society,” he added.

The campaign has already generated buzz among his supporters, many of whom are expected to mobilise across major cities for the maiden exercise.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
