VDM APOLOGISES TO SECURITY AGENCIES

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has apologised to members of Nigeria’s security agencies over comments he made at the Nigerian Bar Association’s 2026 Annual General Conference.

Otse said he had reflected on his remarks and realised that his comments appeared to generalise the actions of security personnel, including soldiers, police officers, immigration and customs officials.

Speaking at the NBA conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, he had criticised security agencies while discussing insecurity in the country. He alleged that some personnel were involved in or had knowledge of criminal activities linked to attacks on Nigerians.

However, in a video released on Friday, VDM said his intention was to draw attention to what he described as misconduct by some individuals within the security system rather than condemn personnel who were genuinely serving the country.

He acknowledged that his presentation made it appear as though he was referring to all security officers and said this was unfair, particularly to personnel who had lost their lives in the line of duty.

Otse subsequently apologised to the Chief of Defence Staff and the leadership of the various security agencies.

His apology comes amid criticism of his appearance and comments at the NBA conference, with some Nigerians debating the appropriateness of his remarks and the role of social media activists in discussions on national security.
