V’BALL: NIGERIA COACH HAILS TEAM SPIRIT AFTER DR CONGO COMEBACK

Nigeria’s women’s volleyball team staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-2 in their 9th-12th classification match at the 2026 African Women’s Volleyball Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Nigerian team appeared to be heading for defeat after losing the opening two sets 25-20 and 25-22.

However, they mounted an impressive fightback, winning the third set 25-21 before dominating the fourth set 25-13 to level the contest.

Nigeria then held their nerve in the deciding set, edging DR Congo 15-13 to complete the comeback.

Head coach Elishama Elam praised the resilience and determination of his players, describing the victory as a reflection of Nigeria's never-say-die spirit.

The coach also credited determination and faith for helping the team recover from their difficult start.

Despite the victory, Elam warned his players against complacency ahead of their final classification match.

He said the team would approach the final game with the same determination and give everything on the court.

The comeback victory gives Nigeria a major confidence boost heading into their final match of the championship after demonstrating their ability to recover from two sets down and secure an important win.
