The Federal Government has issued a fresh warning about possible flooding in 14 states following forecasts of heavy rainfall between September 4 and 8, 2025.
The alert was contained in a statement released on Thursday by the National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEWS Centre) of the Federal Ministry of Environment.
According to the statement, signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management Department, the downpour could trigger flooding in several communities, and stakeholders are advised to remain on high alert.

Kano: Gwarzo, Karaye
Zamfara: Anka, Gummi, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Bukuyum
Taraba: Dampar, Duchi, Garkowa, Gassol, Gembu, Gun Gun Bodel, Kambari, Mayo Ranewo, Mutum Biyu, Bandawa, Ngaruwa
Abia: Eziama, Umuahia
Yobe: Geidam, Kanama, Potiskum
Plateau: Langtang, Shendam, Wase
Borno: Ngala
Imo: Okigwe, Otoko
Niger: Sarki Pawa

The Ministry urged residents, state governments, and emergency agencies to take precautionary measures and prepare responses to mitigate the impact.
Meanwhile, the North-East Governors’ Forum has also raised concerns over the region’s vulnerability to climate change, noting that the expected flooding could worsen humanitarian challenges and trigger food shortages.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, who chairs the Forum, said forecasts indicate the subregion may face severe flooding in the coming months, and called for urgent intervention to protect lives and livelihoods.
