US-NIGERIA MILITARY PARTNERSHIP BUILT ON SHARED INTERESTS, SAYS AFRICOM
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has stated that its military partnership with Nigeria is founded on mutual interests and a shared commitment to regional security and stability.
According to AFRICOM, the long-standing relationship between both countries is focused on strengthening security cooperation, enhancing military professionalism, and addressing common threats such as terrorism, insurgency, and transnational crime.
The command emphasized that its collaboration with Nigeria is not based on control or interference but on cooperation designed to support both nations’ strategic interests.
AFRICOM noted that Nigeria remains one of the United States’ most important security partners in Africa due to its influential role in regional peacekeeping efforts and its contribution to maintaining stability across West Africa.
The partnership includes military training programs, intelligence sharing, capacity building, and joint initiatives aimed at improving security operations and response capabilities.
Officials also highlighted the importance of collaboration in combating extremist groups and other security challenges that continue to affect parts of the region.
According to AFRICOM, effective partnerships are essential for addressing modern security threats, which often extend beyond national borders and require coordinated international responses.
The statement comes amid ongoing discussions about foreign military cooperation and the role of international partnerships in strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
Analysts believe continued engagement between Nigeria and the United States could contribute to improved operational capabilities, regional security coordination, and broader stability efforts across the continent.
