US LAWMAKER ACCUSES NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT OF FAILING TO PROTECT CHRISTIANS DESPITE BILLIONS IN MILITARY AID
Nigeria Has Got Billions Of Dollars In Military Assistance, Yet Failed To Address K!llings, Protect Christians — US Lawmaker Riley Moore
U.S. lawmaker Riley Moore, head of the investigative committee set up by former President Donald Trump to probe the alleged k!llings of Christians in Nigeria, has accused the Nigerian government of failing to properly utilize the billions of dollars in military assistance it received from the United States.
Speaking in an interview with Dinesh D’Souza, Moore expressed deep concern over what he described as a “genocide against Christians” in Nigeria, lamenting that the violence has continued “under the radar” with little international response.
“My brothers and sisters in Christ are murdered for practising their faith and belief in our Lord Jesus Christ,” Moore said.
“If we don’t address this, if we don’t do something about this and terrorists take hold in Nigeria, I promise you, we would have to address it one way or another. What I’d like to do is address it cooperatively with the Nigerians.”
Moore criticized Nigerian authorities for not prioritizing the protection of Christians despite receiving extensive U.S. military support.
“We have been providing them billions of dollars’ worth of security assistance — training, equipment, and resources — to address this issue, but it has gone unresolved. They are not prioritizing the protection of Christians,” he stated.
The lawmaker added that the lack of accountability and action could push the U.S. to intervene directly if the situation continues to worsen.
He further vowed to send a detailed report to Donald Trump, thanking the former president for his “bold leadership” in defending persecuted Christians.
Earlier, Trump had reiterated that Nigeria faces an “existential threat” due to widespread attacks on Christian communities, warning that the U.S. could cut aid or even consider military action if the violence persists.
“Thousands of Christians are being k!lled. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, announcing the redesignation of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’.
“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening. We are able and willing to defend Christians — the k!lling of Christians is not going to continue.”
However, the Nigerian government has rejected the characterization of the situation as genocide, insisting that the violence affects communities across religious lines and that the country’s constitution guarantees freedom of faith for all citizens.
Despite these denials, international pressure continues to mount as reports of persistent attacks in Christian-dominated areas spark growing concern among rights groups and Western lawmakers.
