The comedy world is in mourning following the tragic death of Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, a well-known US stand-up comedian who was shot and killed in Southaven, Mississippi, on August 20, 2025. He was 52 years old.

According to the Southaven Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting on Burton Lane and found Carroll with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts from both officers and medical personnel, he did not survive.

Police confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody and charged with Carroll’s murder. “Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Carroll. Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding,” the department wrote in a statement.

Carroll, popularly known as the “Knockout King of Comedy,” built his career performing across the country and was touring with fellow comedian Katt Williams at the time of his death. His credits include appearances in The Parkers, the TV film Rent & Go, and performances in Knockout Kings of Comedy as well as Showtime at the Apollo.

Tributes have poured in from fans, fellow comedians, and the wider comedy community. The Mobtown Comedy family described him as “one of Baltimore’s great talents,” while comedian Bernard Williams credited Carroll for pushing him to pursue stand-up, calling him a mentor on and off the stage.

Carroll’s brother, Jonathan Carroll, also shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, thanking the public for their condolences while urging restraint in sharing sensitive details about his brother’s death until the family confirms all facts.

Reggie Carroll’s sudden passing has left a deep void in the comedy scene. To many, he was not only a gifted performer but also a guiding figure who inspired and supported up-and-coming comics.
