UNIVERSAL INSURANCE SECURES ₦7.1BN INVESTMENT FOR RECAPITALISATION
Universal Insurance Plc has secured ₦7.1 billion in fresh investment to support its recapitalisation programme and strengthen its financial position.
The investment is expected to help the insurer meet regulatory capital requirements while providing additional capacity to expand its underwriting operations.
The development comes as insurance companies across Nigeria work to strengthen their capital bases under the industry’s ongoing recapitalisation exercise.
Universal Insurance said the fresh funds would support its growth strategy and improve its ability to take on larger risks across different sectors of the economy.
Industry stakeholders said stronger capitalisation would enable insurers to improve financial resilience and compete more effectively for large corporate and infrastructure risks.
Analysts noted that additional capital could also support investment in technology, product development, distribution channels, and customer service.
They said the recapitalisation exercise could strengthen Nigeria’s insurance industry by encouraging companies to improve their capacity and offer more competitive products.
Stakeholders, however, urged Universal Insurance to deploy the new capital prudently and maintain strong risk management as it expands its operations.
They also stressed the importance of improving claims settlement and customer engagement to build public confidence and increase insurance penetration.
Universal Insurance reaffirmed its commitment to using the investment to strengthen its operations and create sustainable value for customers and shareholders.
The successful investment provides the insurer with additional financial capacity as it positions itself for growth in Nigeria’s evolving insurance market.
