UNITY COLLEGES SET TO RESUME AFTER STRIKE SUSPENSION
The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria has suspended its strike over the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos, paving the way for academic activities to resume across Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
The decision followed a meeting between the union, the Trade Union Congress and zonal coordinators of the Unity Colleges in Kano on Tuesday.
The workers agreed to suspend the industrial action to allow a seven-member committee to review the concession document involving King’s College and its Old Boys Association.
The Federal Government had earlier placed the concession on hold for two weeks pending the committee’s review. Two ASCSN representatives are members of the committee.
The strike had disrupted the 2026/2027 academic session, which was originally scheduled to begin on September 13.
Following the suspension, the Parent Teacher Association of Federal Unity Colleges proposed September 27 as a possible resumption date for students, subject to confirmation by the Federal Ministry of Education.
The PTA urged the government, labour unions and other stakeholders to sustain dialogue while the committee carries out its assignment.
The unions had opposed the proposed concession of King’s College, expressing concerns about its implications for the Federal Unity College system.
The latest decision is expected to allow academic activities to restart while discussions over the concession continue.
