A United Airlines flight bound for Washington, D.C., was forced to return to Lagos early Tuesday after a passenger suffered a medical emergency mid-air.
Flight UA613 departed Lagos at about 12:10 a.m. and was over 90 minutes into its journey when the pilot made an urgent call for medical professionals on board to assist the affected passenger.
The captain later announced that the aircraft would turn back to Lagos, emphasizing that passenger safety remained the airline’s highest priority.
The plane touched down safely at Murtala Muhammed International Airport around 2:26 a.m., where medical personnel were on standby. The passenger was immediately taken off the aircraft for emergency care.
The flight was subsequently cancelled, and passengers were disembarked. They were later informed they would be accommodated in a hotel while awaiting further travel arrangements.
