UNIPORT DEBUNKS FAKE SNAKE VIDEO, ASSURES CAMPUS IS SAFE
No Python, No Panic: UNIPORT Clears the Air on Viral Snake Video
The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has come forward to debunk a viral video claiming that a python was killed on one of its campuses. According to the university, the video is nothing but fake news aimed at stirring unnecessary panic.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the institution's Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations, Mr. Sammy Kpenu, labeled the video as "entirely baseless" and “a fabrication by mischief makers.” He assured students, parents, and the general public that there is no truth to the circulating footage.
“The University of Port Harcourt remains a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning, research, and all legitimate activities,” the statement read.
UNIPORT expressed disappointment that individuals would spread such misinformation just to gain online attention and popularity, warning that the act is not only harmful but also damaging to the university’s reputation.
The school also emphasized that steps have been taken to identify and report those deliberately sharing false content to the appropriate authorities.
In the meantime, the university is urging everyone to disregard the video and refrain from spreading it further. “Let’s work together to stop the spread of fake news,” the statement concluded.
So, if you’ve come across the viral snake video, rest easy—there’s no python on campus, and UNIPORT remains a secure place for students and staff.
