UNILAG RESCUES STUDENTS STRANDED IN CHINA AFTER SOCIAL MEDIA OUTCRY

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has successfully facilitated the return of several students who were stranded in China, following a widespread social media campaign that highlighted their plight.

The students, who were on exchange or study programmes, faced difficulties due to visa and financial issues amid changing international travel regulations. A series of emotional posts and videos on social media drew public attention and prompted swift intervention by university authorities.

UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, confirmed that the institution coordinated with relevant government agencies and partners to provide necessary support, including travel arrangements and financial assistance for the affected students. “We take the welfare of our students very seriously. Their safe return is our priority,” she said.

Parents and the students expressed gratitude for the university’s prompt response. The incident has sparked discussions on the need for stronger support systems for Nigerian students studying abroad.

UNILAG has assured that it will review its international programme protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
