UNILAG BANS SKITMAKING AND CONTENT CREATION ON CAMPUS WITHOUT APPROVAL
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has officially banned unauthorized skitmaking, filmmaking, and content creation on its campus.
In a statement signed by Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head of Communication, the institution expressed concern over the growing trend of individuals using hostels and university grounds for filming skits, vox pops, and short films without official consent.
UNILAG said the decision aims to protect the academic environment and preserve the university’s image from being misrepresented in unregulated productions.
“The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pop, etc.) and cinematographic activities without appropriate authorisation,” the statement read.
The university emphasized that all forms of content creation on campus—by students, staff, or external collaborators—must first receive approval from the communication unit.
While acknowledging the creative energy of young Nigerians, UNILAG stressed that such activities must respect safety, order, and institutional integrity.
Interestingly, the university has produced some of Nigeria’s biggest online entertainers, including Brain Jotter and Muhammed Gilmore, both alumni who launched their comedy careers during their time at UNILAG.
