UNICEF URGES KATSINA RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO PROMOTE CHILD HEALTH

The United Nations Children’s Fund has called on religious leaders in Katsina State to play a stronger role in promoting child health and encouraging families to use available healthcare services.

UNICEF said religious leaders have significant influence within their communities and can help raise awareness about issues affecting the health and wellbeing of children.

The organisation urged clerics to use sermons and community engagements to encourage parents and caregivers to prioritise routine immunisation, proper nutrition and timely medical care for children.

UNICEF also stressed the importance of addressing misinformation about healthcare and vaccinations, noting that trusted community voices can help families make informed decisions.

The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts to reduce preventable childhood illnesses and improve health outcomes among children in Nigeria.

Religious leaders were encouraged to work closely with health authorities and community organisations to promote healthy practices and ensure that children have access to essential health services.

UNICEF said stronger community involvement would be important in improving immunisation coverage and preventing diseases that can threaten children’s lives.

The organisation also urged parents to ensure that children receive routine vaccinations and seek medical attention when they show signs of illness.

The initiative highlights the importance of partnerships between health agencies, religious institutions and local communities in addressing child health challenges.

UNICEF expressed confidence that the support of religious leaders in Katsina would help increase awareness and encourage families to take practical steps to protect the health and wellbeing of their children.
