UMAHI URGES CEMENT MANUFACTURERS TO REDUCE PRICES AMID RISING CONSTRUCTION COSTS

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has called on cement manufacturers to reduce the price of cement, citing concerns over the rising cost of construction materials in the country.

Umahi made the appeal while addressing stakeholders in the building and construction sector, noting that the high cost of cement is slowing down infrastructure development across Nigeria.

He said the government is committed to improving road and housing projects, but stressed that affordability of key materials remains essential for progress.

According to him, collaboration between government and manufacturers is necessary to ensure stability in the construction industry and prevent unnecessary delays in ongoing projects.

The minister also urged producers to consider national economic conditions and support efforts aimed at reducing inflationary pressure in the sector.

Stakeholders in the construction industry have repeatedly raised concerns about fluctuating cement prices, which they say affect project planning and execution.

Umahi assured that the federal government will continue engaging industry players to find sustainable solutions that balance profitability with national development needs.

The appeal comes amid broader discussions on infrastructure costs and economic reforms in the country.
