UMAHI LINKS TINUBU’S 2027 RETURN TO COMPLETION OF MAJOR ROAD PROJECTS

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has appealed to residents and communities in four states to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for another term in office, arguing that continued support would help ensure the completion of major federal road projects across the region.

Umahi made the appeal during an inspection of the Cross River–Ebonyi–Benue–Abuja Trans-Saharan Highway at the weekend. He urged communities in Benue, Ebonyi, Enugu and Cross River states to recognise the Federal Government’s infrastructure interventions and support the administration’s efforts. 

The minister said the ongoing road projects had begun to open up communities that had previously experienced serious difficulties transporting agricultural produce, vehicles and machinery because of poor road networks.

According to him, improved road connectivity would strengthen economic activities and make it easier for farmers and businesses in the affected areas to move goods to markets.

Umahi maintained that the Federal Government had demonstrated commitment to addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges through investments in major highways across the country.

He appealed to residents of the affected states to appreciate the projects being executed by the administration and support Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.

The minister argued that continued support for the President would help guarantee the completion of projects that are already underway, stressing that the administration had shown commitment to delivering infrastructure across different parts of the country.

He said the Federal Government was also collaborating with state governments to tackle infrastructure problems and improve access to communities and agricultural areas.

Umahi further pointed to other major road interventions being undertaken by the Federal Government, including projects around Ibadan and Ijebu Ode, as well as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

The Works Minister said the government's road development programme was designed not only to improve transportation but also to stimulate economic activities by connecting communities, businesses and agricultural production centres.

The Cross River–Ebonyi–Benue–Abuja highway is expected to improve connectivity across the affected states and provide an alternative route for the movement of people and goods between the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions.

Umahi's appeal comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with members of the Federal Government increasingly highlighting infrastructure and other development projects as part of the administration's record.

The minister urged the benefiting communities to acknowledge the impact of the ongoing projects and continue cooperating with contractors and government officials to ensure their successful completion.

He also emphasised the importance of maintaining the roads and ensuring that infrastructure investments translate into lasting economic benefits for the communities they serve.

The Federal Government has continued to present road construction and rehabilitation as a major component of its development agenda, particularly in areas where poor infrastructure has historically restricted economic activity.

Umahi's latest comments therefore combine the administration's infrastructure agenda with its political campaign for continued support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
